REV's Albrecht Takes First in Wrestling CBL
By VINCENT GALVAN and STEPHANIE AGUILAR
The goal of wrestling is to take down your opponent as fast as you can. This sport takes strength, skill, speed, and focus.
Redlands East Valley junior Chris Albrecht, coached by Ben Chavez, took first place in his weight division in the Citrus Belt League for the 2016-17 season.
Chris Albrecht has been in varsity wrestling for three years and is involved in REV’s football team. Albrecht is also in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program and takes advanced placement classes.
Training for Albrecht can be difficult. Although it can be difficult, practice, conditioning, and learning techniques help him maintain his high rank. Albrecht usually works out in and out of school for three hours a day.
When asked if he felt the pressure from his team or coach, he replied no and that they are very supportive. With all that hard work for wrestling, he can usually take down someone in the 1st period, with his best match taking place during CBL Championships 2017.
When Albrecht was aked if he was afraid of someone else in his team would take over his spot by the end of the season, he simply said “No.”
Albrecht states that he will be not be pursuing wrestling in college.
A quote that motivates him in his daily performances is, “We do not rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.”
