While many people are looking forward to watching the much anticipated Super Bowl 50 this Sunday, basketball fans may be awaiting next weekend, the famous All-Star Weekend.
After many weeks of voting from NBA fans across the world, the All-Star rosters have been set for both conferences, as the Western All-Stars will be lead by reigning MVP Stephen Curry and Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, who is participating in his eighteenth and final All-Star Game. The East will be represented by former Miami Heat teammates, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, as well as many other standout players from their respective teams.
The All-Star Game will be held on Valentine’s Day on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
However there are also many other events that take place before the game, such as the entertaining Slam Dunk Contest and enjoyable Three-Point Contest.
Both of these will occur the night prior to the All-Star Game. Even though the fans help decide the rosters for Sunday’s competition, the NBA ultimately chooses its participants for the Saturday night occurrences.
The Taco Bell Skills Challenge will include defending champion, Patrick Beverley of the Houston Rockets, the number one overall pick of the 2015 draft, Karl-Anthony Towns, star big man, Demarcus Cousins, as well as many others.
Following the Skills Challenge will be the Three-Point Contest, which will feature Stephen Curry defending his crown against sharp-shooters such as J.J. Redick, Klay Thompson, and James Harden.
The last event of the night will be the Slam Dunk Contest, consisting of four participants, those four being the current title holder, Zach LaVine, double-double machine, Andre Drummond, rising shooting guard, Will Barton and pure athlete, Aaron Gordon.
All-Star Weekend brings a countless amount of memories to all basketball fans around the globe each year, and I believe that this one should be no different.
Here are my predictions for the weekend:
- Taco Bell Skills Challenge- Isaiah Thomas
- Three-Point Contest- Stephen Curry
- Slam Dunk Contest- Zach LaVine
- All-Star Game- West All-Stars
