On Feb.28, the Citrus Valley Blackhawks went up against the Saddleback Roadrunners in the semi-finals; both teams attempting to make their run for the championship game. Both schools were stuck playing a defensive game, as neither team would give up a goal which led to a 0-0 tie at the half. As the second half came around, defense was still playing a key role in the game as it wasn’t until the 9 minute mark when #7 Elias Mejia scored, making the game 1-0 in favor of the Blackhawks. Citrus Valley looked like they had the momentum to carry them to a championship game, but that came to a screeching halt when #24 from Saddleback scored the game tying goal to send the game into overtime. When overtime came around, both teams stepped up their intensity which then then led to double overtime. In double overtime, both teams made terrific plays on the defensive and offensive side to keep their momentum going, and after the double overtime, the game went to penalty kicks. During the PK period each team is allowed 5 shots to determine the winner of the game, and in that period Citrus Valley made all five of their shots; Saddleback only made four which resulted in Citrus Valley winning the game and moving on to play El Dorado in the CIF championship game.
