I was born and raised in the small town of Redlands, California. To many of my fellow peers who have also grown up here, it is known as “Deadlands.” I’m going to tell you why I love this beautiful town I live in.
Redlands is a small community where everyone seems to know each other. Personally, I can’t go anywhere without seeing someone I know. Some might see this as a burden, but I see it as a blessing.
No matter where I go, I can always count on having a conversation with a good friend, or catching up with someone I haven’t talked to in some time.
The beauty and nature in Redlands is evident to anyone who comes to visit, and especially appreciated by those who live here. I love my town during the Spring-time when the aroma of the orange blossoms fills the air and can be smelled for miles.
During the Summer, I love to run through downtown Redlands by myself or with my cross country team. One of my favorite places to run in Redlands is Prospect Park, where I go up around Serpentine Drive to the top where the whole canyon is visible. On certain days when the sunset is exceptionally beautiful, I like to go up there and bask in the sun.
Redlands is full of quirky coffee and ice cream shops. Some of my favorite coffee places (aside from most people's typical go-to spot, Starbucks) include Stell Coffee and Tea and Bricks and Birch. I also love going to A la Minute, especially on those hot summer days.
The historic buildings in Redlands never fail to amaze me. Places like the Burrage Mansion, Smiley Library, the Morey Mansion, and Redlands Bowl always make my heart happy. They are filled with such history and amazing stories, and I feel like I could spend hours there. Not to mention the fact that all of these buildings are beautiful to look at.
As I am leaving to go off to college, I find that my appreciation for this town has grown greatly. Although I’ll be right around the corner in Riverside, it won’t be the same. I feel so fortunate to have been able to live in such an amazing town throughout my entire life, and I’m thankful for all the memories Redlands has given me.
