The Tesla Model 3: a new, affordable sedan style electric vehicle. It comes from the same company, Tesla Motors, that produced the electric Roadster, Model X and incredibly popular Model S. The Model 3 was unveiled on March 31st, although the car’s concept was announced long ago, and already almost 400,000 Model 3s have been preordered. First deliveries are set for late 2017.
The Model 3 at $35,000 is supposed to be a very affordable electric vehicle, while still offering every luxury that comes with a car on that price tier. Tesla Motors Founder and CEO even said that it would be the best car you could get for $35,000. This price is of course without any add-ons to the car, but also without the grants offered by many states and countries for purchasing electric vehicles.
The Model 3 will have a minimum range of just over 200 miles. Although it will have faster versions, the base model will have a 0-60 time of just six seconds. Unlike its predecessors, the inside of the Model 3 is fairly simple; it's only ornamentation is a large touch screen for a control panel.
With nearly 400,000 pre-orders for the long awaited car, some worry about Tesla meeting demands. After all, there are not even 400,000 Tesla cars on the road yet. However, the company claims their factory is gearing up specifically for Model 3 production and will produce 500,000 vehicles per year. With this many cars being ordered just days after it was available for pre-order, the car will surely sell many more units. This is truly a large step for a company that is less than a decade old.
