It’s competition season for cheer, song, and mascots! Competition season is a very fun, yet stressful time for these spiritleaders. They get a chance to show off their talents and prove to the judges that they are ready for nationals in March. The way competitions work goes like this: the teams are divided into categories by size, level, and style for song, then, they are scored based on their technique and performance. If the team does well, they get a bid to nationals. If they do really well, they place in their category amongst other teams. REV’s spiritleaders have received both these awards on multiple occasions and are back this year to do it again!
On January 9, 2016 Redlands East Valley’s cheer and song team had competitions at separate venues. This competition for cheer took place at Summit High School, where the team got a bid for nationals. Song’s competition was located at Aliso Niguel High School where the team took home multiple awards. Soloist Kyrien Wickersham (senior) took home a 3rd place in her lyrical category. Soloist Bella Hanlon (senior) also took home 3rd in her jazz category. The team’s pom routine took 2nd in their category, and the x-small lyrical trio consisting of Kyrien Wickersham (senior), Bella Hanlon (senior), and Kassidy Lihme (sophomore) won 4th in their category. Both teams were very successful at their competitions.
The second competition in January took place on the 17th at Brea Olinda High School where the two teams competed together. Cheer’s stunt group won their division coming in first. Cheer’s group routine came in third. Song placed 2nd in their category. It was a very successful weekend for the wildcats!
