The plot of the game starts off with a mysterious character summoning the dragon Shenron to grant a wish to find out who’s the strongest in the universe. The story then transitions to Future Trunks who is a popular character from the series and the son of Vegeta, a warrior prince that rivals the main protagonist Goku. Trunks fought to protect his future where Goku dies of a heart disease, and the planet has undergone mass destruction by superhuman Androids 17 and 18. He traveled to the main timeline to prevent the same destruction by an even greater enemy known as Cell. Trunks’ current mission is to recruit members to help him control the disruptions in time and keep the story progressing the way it does in the anime series. The story progresses with its Quest mode where you move in a board game style reminiscent of the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 story mode. Along the map are red spots with targets that deals damage to your character if landed on question marks that could either give you rewards such as Zeni, the DBZ world form of money, power boost for characters, or capsules that serve for the purpose of training and awakening character cards and even support items for big boss fights. Certain stages also contain one of the seven dragon balls that you could use to make a wish. Other modes include Events which are limited and are usually released again later on periodically or the once a month tournament mode where you can strive to get higher in ranks or get cool rewards such as the event exclusive cards.
The game uses a form of currency style being seen with many Bandai Namco mobile games recently. In this game they are called dragon stones. You get them by clearing story mode, missions, and even as gifts for login. In the game you use these stones to summon new character cards that differ in types and rarity. The way these types work is once again pretty similar to other mobile Bandai games. You have five types that are stronger against one and weaker against another. Strength [Str] is the red types strong against the Orange Physical [Phy] types and weak against the blue Agility [Agl] types. The Physical types are strong against the purple Intelligence [Int] types. The Int cards are strong against the green Technique [Teq] cards who are strong against the Agl types.
The card rankings are, N for common, R for rare, SR for super rare, SSR, for super super rare, UR for ultra rares, and recently the game has released a new rank LR for legendary rare. While summoning you will see Goku who will have different animations showcasing your luck on getting a good card. For example if he transforms to Super Saiyan 2 you are guaranteed a SR or above. If you summon with a rainbow and he does not transform he’ll shatter the screen and give you an SSR. The better the characters the easier it is to beat difficult boss characters released every month for events known as Dokkan festivals. Most players attempt to save their stones so that they can get exclusive cards from these events such as Super Vegito, Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan, Kid Buu and even more. The game is based mostly on RNG rates so you may get a good card or you might get a rare one. Overall, this game is a fun way to pass the time especially if you don’t have a big gaming console or the time to play one. Mostly due to the game being accessible on your phone so you can play on the go. A downside to this game is that if your the type of person to clear all the stages quickly, it leaves you with a dry spell of boredom and nothing to do until the next story update or big events. However the new events are updated more frequently than the story so that's something to look forward to. If you are a fan of the series or just want of experience some to its popularity then definitely check out the app store for the fun. I rate this game as 5 out of the 7 dragon balls!
