He Named Me Malala, is a first person view of Malala Yousafzai’s story about her actions and struggles through her young life.
The movie begins with Malala speaking about the meaning of her name and how Malali, a historic figure of Afghanistan, was killed because someone did not believe in her cause. This story is similar to Malala’s story, except, Malala survived after being shot in the head by the Taliban.
Though the story of Malala is inspiring itself, the documentary didn’t really focus on what she was fighting for, which was to bring education for women in her native Swat Valley in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of northwest Pakistan. Instead, the documentary shows parts of her personal life, which includes Malala and the bond she had with her father and her brothers.
This documentary is one that should be watched by students to show how one girl fought for her right to education, even if she was a female. The story of Malala is very inspirational and it goes to show how important education is to her and why it should be important to everyone around the globe.
